Mining is at the root of Fraser Alexander’s services. As industry specialists, we offer:
Through our trusted partnership with, and equity share in, our opencast mining contractor company, Close-Up Mining, we offer a range of opencast mining services:
Fraser Alexander has executed most of the hydraulic remining projects completed in Africa and South America to date. In fact, our tailings division is where Fraser Alexander originated back in 1912. This extensive experience, and the fact that we process as much as 100 million tons of tailings a year, makes us one of the largest tailings remining companies in the world.
This is done using a system of mechanical processes, including excavation, screening, sizing, transportation and conveying.
This is the process of using high-pressure water jets to re-pulp the tailings deposits. We use hydro mining units that are manual, remote-controlled, or even (our own innovation) remote-controlled and trackless.
If there’s potential for remining, we’re your experts. Contact us for more information.
Fraser Alexander owns, operates and maintains a range of process facilities and can provide you with the metallurgical, engineering and quality management services associated with mineral beneficiation.
We offer end-to-end processes that are tailored to your specific needs. These include breaking, crushing, screening, pelletising, briquetting, mineral processing and integrated water management. Throughput of our plants ranges from 50 to 500 tons per hour and allow modular expansion when configured in parallel or in series.
Our flexible, customisable and cutting-edge processing plant solutions can include all or a combination of:
Our packaged DBOOM model (Design, Build, Own, Operate, Maintain) differentiates us by offering a convenient outsourced service that minimises delays and streamlines approvals.

At the heart of many of Fraser Alexander’s solutions are the systems that move the materials between mining sites, processing plants, smelters and disposal sites. As is customary for us, these systems can be customised to your needs and are offered on a DBOOM (Design, Build, Own, Operate, and Maintain) or O&M (Operate and Maintain) basis.
Using these systems, the substances we can move range from wet materials (like hydro-remined slurry), through dry materials (like coal, mineral ores and waste), to hot metals. If you need it moved, we can help you using one or a combination of the following solutions:
Apart from this standard equipment, we also offer several proprietary FA-designed machines to enhance safety and efficiency. These equipment innovations include high-temperature loading buckets, hauler load bodies, and purpose-built trailers with a low centre of gravity.
Deposition refers todeposits of bulk materials. It relates to where, what and how we store or dispose of the materials involved in the processes we support. For Fraser Alexander, this deposition coverstailings storage facilities, stockpiles, discard dumps and managing industrial waste.
Tailings management is where Fraser Alexander began in 1912 and it is thanks to this experience that we remain at the forefront of global tailings management. With our well-trained professional team and our proven tailings management systems, we’re able to routinely monitor the 'health' of each facility, intervening proactively whenever necessary.
When dealing with huge quantities of raw materials, processed products and waste, it is critical to have safe, effective and environmentally friendly deposition solutions. At Fraser Alexander, we construct, operate and maintain stockpiles and discard dumps, managing everything from the design and footprint, to the environmental effects, fire hazards, and operational safety.
The element that distinguishes industrial from mining waste management is the fact that each industry and material has its own legal and operational restrictions, and these affect its proper handling and disposal. Some of our typical bulk wastes include power station fly ash and bottom ash, steel industry slags, oils and tars from the synfuels industry, and gypsum from fertilisers.
Mining and industrial processes are, by their nature, disruptive to the environment. These disruptions can impact water quality, vegetation, and even your company’s reputation and bottom line.To circumvent these issues, Fraser Alexander offers a full range of rehabilitation and post-mine-closure solutions. These include:
We’re not a design house, but we do have the skills and experience to know what will support post-closure reform and what won’t. This, along with our integrated project management capability, ensures accurate mine implementation and complex integrated rehab projects.
Through strategic partnerships with agricultural scientists, Fraser Alexander provides site-specific, custom-made and scientifically supported topsoil management solutions that are cost-effective and have been proven to work.
Our traditional strengths in bulk materials handling, bulk earthworks and civil construction also support our rehabilitation projects by offering competencies like:
A rehabilitation solution is only as good as its end results. This is why we offer ongoing monitoring and maintenance of the topsoil and landform functionality. Other land management services offered by Fraser Alexander include:

Water is a crucial but limited and sometimes costly resource in the mining and industrial industries. This is why Fraser Alexander’s Water Treatment Division has a range of flexible, customisable and modular solutions that manage your water usage, wastage and treatment.
We can assist with anything from engineering to the construction, procurement, supply, commissioning, operation and maintenance of an FA - or client-owned water treatment facility. Plus, as one of the major driving forces behind Miwatek, the advanced-technology water treatment company, we’re widely considered to be leaders in the industry.
Our state-of-the-art water treatment applications include:

Tailings Storage Facilities provide an inherent risk to mining operations. Fraser Alexander utilises TORAS (Technical and Operational Risk Assessment System) to monitor and manage risk and compliance of all deposition contracts to international legislation, best practice, governance standards, technical criteria and required documentation.
The TORAS application together with our experienced expert tailings operators, in collaboration with engineers of record and mine management, significantly reduces the risk to mining operations. Suitable external parties are appointed annually to review TORAS in line with international best practice.
